Plot
The story begins in a quiet residential neighborhood on the outskirts of Las Vegas, where people have been mysteriously disappearing. Among the missing are several students, including Adam Johnson, a childhood friend of Charley Brewster and his former best friend, Edward “Evil Ed” Lee.
Charley is a high school student who has recently changed his social circle. Once an awkward teenager who spent his time making homemade superhero videos with Ed and Adam, he is now dating Amy Peterson and trying to leave his former life behind. His growing popularity has caused him to distance himself from Ed, who remains concerned about the strange disappearances.
At school, Ed tells Charley that something is seriously wrong and insists that the missing students may have fallen victim to a dangerous predator. He suspects that their new neighbor, Jerry Dandrige, is responsible. Charley dismisses his claims, believing that Ed is becoming paranoid, and refuses to take him seriously.
Meanwhile, Charley lives with his mother, Jane, a real estate agent who is pleased to meet Jerry after he moves into the house next door. Jerry is charming and attractive, and Jane quickly takes a liking to him. Charley, however, feels uncomfortable around the new neighbor, although he does not yet understand why.
After school, Charley eventually agrees to meet Ed at Adam's house to investigate the disappearance. However, he becomes increasingly frustrated when Ed continues insisting that Jerry is a vampire. The two argue, and Charley leaves, refusing to believe his former friend's accusations.
Later, Jerry confronts Ed and reveals that he knows Ed has been watching him. Jerry pursues him through the neighborhood and eventually corners him near a swimming pool. He manipulates Ed by suggesting that becoming a vampire would give him the power and confidence he has always wanted. Feeling rejected and resentful of Charley, Ed willingly allows Jerry to bite him.
The following day, Charley realizes that Ed has disappeared. Concerned by the growing number of missing students, he begins investigating Jerry on his own. He discovers recordings Ed made while attempting to prove that Jerry is a vampire, including evidence suggesting that Jerry's reflection does not appear as it should.
Determined to uncover the truth, Charley secretly enters Jerry's house. Inside, he discovers strange objects, unusual decorations, and a hidden corridor containing several small rooms where Jerry keeps his victims imprisoned. Charley realizes that Ed may have been right all along.
During his investigation, Charley discovers a captive woman and attempts to help her escape. However, when she reaches the sunlight, she is immediately destroyed. The horrifying incident confirms that Jerry's victims are not ordinary prisoners and that he possesses supernatural powers.
Charley manages to escape and seeks help from Peter Vincent, a Las Vegas magician whose elaborate stage performances portray him as an expert vampire hunter. Although Peter presents himself as knowledgeable about vampires, he initially dismisses Charley's story as the delusion of a frightened teenager. When Charley insists that Jerry is real and dangerous, Peter refuses to help him and has him removed from his penthouse.
Back home, Charley becomes increasingly frightened and begins preparing to defend himself. He places religious symbols around the house and tries to convince his mother that Jerry is dangerous. Jane, however, has no reason to believe that her seemingly friendly neighbor is a monster.
Jerry eventually arrives at the Brewster house and confronts Charley about breaking into his property. He attempts to manipulate Jane into allowing him inside, but Charley persuades her not to invite him in. Realizing that Charley will continue interfering with his activities, Jerry decides to destroy the house.
Using his extraordinary strength, Jerry digs into the ground and damages the gas line beneath the property. He then ignites the gas, causing a massive explosion that sets the house on fire. Charley, Jane, and Amy narrowly escape and flee in Jane's vehicle.
Jerry pursues them through the desert, using his supernatural speed and strength to attack their vehicle. The chase ends in a collision, leaving the three of them vulnerable. Jerry attacks Charley, revealing his monstrous vampire form, with red eyes, sharp teeth, and grotesque features.
Charley attempts to defend himself with a wooden cross, but Jerry demonstrates that the symbol has no power over him without genuine religious faith. Just as Jerry is about to kill Charley, Jane grabs a wooden real estate sign and drives it through Jerry's body. Although the makeshift stake seriously injures him, it fails to strike his heart, allowing the vampire to survive.
The group escapes in another vehicle, leaving Jerry behind as he begins recovering from his injuries. Jane, however, suffers a serious injury during the escape and is taken to a hospital.
With his mother hospitalized and his home destroyed, Charley realizes that he can no longer run from the danger. Peter contacts him after recognizing an unusual symbol in a photograph Charley took inside Jerry's house. Charley travels to Peter's penthouse, hoping that the magician will finally help him defeat the vampire.
However, their meeting is interrupted when Ed appears. Having been completely transformed by Jerry, Ed is now a vampire himself. He attacks Charley and helps Jerry pursue the others. The confrontation becomes a desperate fight for survival.
Amy manages to wound Jerry temporarily with holy water, which burns his skin. Meanwhile, Charley is forced to confront Ed, his former best friend. Despite their shared childhood and the emotional pain of fighting someone he once cared about, Charley realizes that Ed has become a deadly threat. After a violent struggle, Charley drives a stake through Ed's heart, killing him.
Charley and Amy escape from Peter's penthouse and make their way into a crowded nightclub. In the confusion, Jerry separates Amy from Charley. He uses his supernatural influence to hypnotize and abduct her, taking her back to his house.
Desperate to rescue Amy, Charley returns to Peter and demands his help. Peter initially refuses, revealing that his own parents were killed by a vampire when he was younger. He has spent years hiding behind his stage persona rather than confronting the supernatural threat that destroyed his family. The vampire responsible was Jerry himself.
Peter eventually gives Charley a special stake blessed by Saint Michael. According to Peter, killing Jerry with this weapon will destroy the vampire and restore his victims to their human forms. Understanding that Amy may still be saved, Charley decides to attack Jerry's house.
Although Peter initially remains reluctant to participate, he eventually decides to join Charley. Together, they prepare weapons and equipment designed to help them survive the encounter. Their plan involves destroying the barriers that keep sunlight out of Jerry's house, since sunlight is one of the few things capable of killing a vampire.
Inside the house, they discover that Jerry's victims have been transformed into vampires and are being kept in the hidden rooms and underground chambers. Among them is Amy, who has begun changing into one of Jerry's creatures.
Charley finds Amy and attempts to reach her emotionally, hoping that some part of her remains human. Amy tells him that they can be together forever if he accepts Jerry's world and allows himself to be transformed. As she moves to bite him, Charley uses the blessed stake to wound her without striking her heart. He deliberately avoids killing her because he believes that defeating Jerry will restore her humanity.
Meanwhile, Peter becomes trapped in a confrontation with Jerry and the other vampires. As the situation deteriorates, Charley discovers that Peter has begun showing signs of vampirism after being exposed to the creatures. Jerry taunts them, believing that his enemies have no chance of escaping before night returns.
Realizing that conventional weapons will not be enough, Charley comes up with a dangerous plan. Wearing protective, flame-resistant clothing, he sets himself on fire and charges directly at Jerry. The unexpected attack catches the vampire off guard, and the flames begin burning him.
Peter assists Charley by firing into the structure above them, creating openings through which sunlight can penetrate the underground chambers. The sunlight begins destroying the vampires surrounding them, while Jerry struggles to escape the combined effects of the fire and the daylight.
During the final confrontation, Charley manages to reach Jerry and retrieve the blessed stake. As the sunlight weakens the vampire, Charley drives the weapon into Jerry's heart, killing him.
Jerry's death releases the supernatural force that had transformed his victims. The remaining vampires return to their human forms, including Amy, who is restored to life as a human being. The people imprisoned in Jerry's house are finally freed from his influence, ending the series of disappearances that had terrorized the neighborhood.
After the battle, Jane recovers from her injuries and begins looking for another house. Charley and Amy survive their ordeal and resume their relationship. Peter also remains in their lives, having finally confronted the vampire responsible for his parents' deaths.
In the final scenes, Charley and Amy spend time together at Peter's penthouse. As the couple begins kissing and becoming intimate, Peter briefly appears, makes a joking remark, and leaves them alone.
With Jerry destroyed and his victims restored, the nightmare that began with the mysterious disappearances outside Las Vegas finally comes to an end.
